Picture this: I take my sweet little 3-year-old, Sophie, to the zoo. I thought she would love it, and be in awe at the beauty of nature and it’s creations. Well… she wasn’t. She was too busy heckling the animals.
She was so upset that they wouldn’t talk to her and answer her questions. With each animal we saw, the harassment got worse and worse. By the time we got to the rhinos, she was leaning over the fence yelling (at the top of her lungs) “HEY YOU!!! LOOK AT ME IN THE FACE!! YOU HAVE A BIG BUM!!!”
Yep. That’s my girl. While all of the other kids were squealing with delight and sweetly waving to the animals, Sophie was making fun of them for being fat. Well done, child.
This girl has so much personality, she keeps me laughing every day. Everything she does is over the top and full of drama.
So when her grandparents got her a beautiful Rapunzel dress for her birthday, I knew I had to make some hair to go with it. Soph doesn’t do things halfway, and her outfit would be all the more dramatic with the long locks to go with it.
All it took was some yellow yarn, a few clear elastics, and about 20 minutes of time. Super easy! With the help of Sophie, I cut the yarn into long pieces, and secured the end with an elastic. I made them about twice the length that it took to go around her head and to the floor. I ended up trimming some at the end, so next time I’ll do a little less than double.
Then, while Jonny was holding the end, I started braiding.
When I reached the correct length (I kept testing it by wrapping it around her head), I tied it off with another elastic and trimmed off the excess.
Then I wrapped it around her head, and secured it with one final elastic.
She absolutely loves it, and it fits her wild, dramatic personality. She likes to wear it to the grocery store and tell everyone she’s a princess. As long as she’s not yelling at the other customers, and telling them they have big bums, I’m fine with it :).
