Monthly Book Club: The Very Cranky Bear

August 22, 2014 by Alli 4 Comments

Monthly Book Club {The Very Cranky Bear} With craft and treat!

I decided to start a monthly Book Club on the blog! My plan is to post a fun book, with a craft and/or treat to go with it. My sister is part of a book club with her friends, and I think it is such a great idea! This post is what she did when she was in charge of her group.

The book is The Very Cranky Bear, which you can purchase HERE*. It is such a darling book, and Sophie and I really loved reading it together. The message is so sweet, and perfect for kiddos.

The Very Cranky Bear - Book Club Idea

For the craft, we made a pillow! If you read the book, you’ll understand why 🙂

Supplies:

Pre-washed fabric (I used 2 13″ squares, but you can make the pillow as big or little as you want!)
Fabric markers*
Polyfil*
Scissors*
Rotary cutter*
Acrylic ruler*
Cutting Mat*
Cardstock*
Thread
Sewing Machine

Have your kids make their own pillow! {Craft idea for book club}

You could get by without the mat, acrylic ruler, and rotary cutter, but they make a huge difference when it comes to cutting fabric!

First, I cut the fabric into squares. I used 13″ squares, which sewed down to a 12″ pillow. You can make it any size you want, though!

Sew up 3 sides, flip it right-side-out, and tuck a piece of card stock inside – this will prevent the marker from bleeding through to the other side.

Have kids decorate their own pillow! Slide in cardstock before coloring to prevent bleeding

Let your little one color their heart out! Soph really got into it, and colored with both hands at once 🙂

After your little Picasso finishes both sides of the pillow, turn it wrong-side out and sew up the last side, leaving a 3-4 inch gap.

Then turn it right-side-out again and let them stuff it with polyfil…

Once your pillow has reached the desired fluffiness, top stitch the gap closed and you’re good to go! Soph loves her pillow, and I am very happy with how it turned out.

We’ve been working on writing her name, so she wrote a bunch of letters on it. {Notice there’s no “h” or “e”… Those letters are tricky, so she pretends they’re not in her name.}

For the treat, you can make these adorable little sheep cupcakes from Repeat Crafter Me! They are so dang cute, and what kid doesn’t love marshmallows?? Go HERE for the instructions on how to make them.

Hope you enjoyed my first Book Club! We sure did 🙂
