Cool Down Oatmeal With Milk Ice Cubes

September 12, 2014 by Alli 1 Comment

Easy way to cool down oatmeal FAST! Freeze milk in ice trays and let it melt into your oatmeal

If your kids are anything like mine, the second their heads lift off their pillows in the mornings, it’s a steady flow of agonizing screams…

“I’M SOOOOOO HUNGRY!!!! I NEED BREAKFAST!! FEED ME, MOM!!!!!” (Well, at least from Sophie. Owen just points at food and grunts like a madman).

You’d think they hadn’t eaten in days. Needless to say, whipping up breakfast needs to be fast. Cereal gets the job done, but oatmeal is definitely their breakfast of choice. And apparently a child can go from hunger to crippling starvation in the time it takes to cook and cool a bowl of oatmeal.

So to put them out of their misery (and let’s be honest… put me out of mine), I started making ice cubes out of milk. I pour milk in there anyways, I might as well freeze it, right? I pop a few cubes in the oatmeal as soon as it’s done cooking, and it takes almost no time at all to cool down! And that means a lot less moaning, and a much better start to our day 🙂

What a great idea 🙂 I do love how kiddos tend to wake up STARVED!! My little man loves “cereal!” every morning 🙂 I’ve started waiting till things go on super sale at Kroger then buying a millions boxes of organic for a lot less. I feel slightly better about feeding him fun cereal when it is organic…

I should try oatmeal, but he’s still stuck in the feed myself mode and his skills aren’t that great, so I’m not sure if I’m brave enough lol
