Whopper Spider Cookies

October 1, 2014 by Alli 9 Comments

Fun spider cookies made with whoppers! Perfect Halloween treat and you can use any cookie dough you want!

Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed my ghost pancakes, because we sure did! But I love today’s Halloween treat even MORE.

I start out with my favorite chocolate chip cookie recipe, but you can use any recipe you like. {This recipe uses cream cheese instead of eggs… which means you can eat the dough! And they’re delicious}. Just make sure the cookies are big enough to hold 3 whopper candies! I used just shy of 1/4 cup of dough for each cookie.

When the cookies are done baking, let them cool for about 10 minutes – until they’re just barely warm. Then, gently press 3 whoppers into each cookie, leaving enough space for those cute little spider legs!

While the cookies finish cooling, melt some milk chocolate chips in the microwave {I used 2/3 cup of chips for my whole batch of cookies}. Place the chips in a ziploc bag and microwave on 50% power for 30 seconds. Stir the chocolate by squeezing the bag with your fingers, and if needed, put it back in the microwave for 20-second intervals. It really shouldn’t take long to melt the chocolate, and you don’t want to burn it! If at least half of the chocolate is melted, you can massage the bag and the rest will melt as well.

Pour the melted chocolate into a piping bag with a small, round tip, or simply snip off a very small corner of the bag and pipe it out that way. The runnier (read: hotter) the chocolate is, the harder it is to pipe, so let it cool down and thicken up a bit before piping the legs on.

Once the chocolate cools down enough, give those spiders some legs by starting at the whopper, and piping your way out. Have the legs bend in the middle to make them look more realistic. I just love how it looks like the spiders are crawling all over the cookies – so fun!
