Ok, y’all. To make things simpler (for me!) I’ve decided Monthly Book Club will be on the first Friday of every month. That way we all know when to expect it!
This month, we chose The Day the Crayons Quit*, by Drew Daywalt. It’s a book of letters to a boy named Duncan, from a box of very fed-up little crayons. So cute! You can purchase it HERE*.
In the book, the crayons are upset for various reasons – being used too much, not being used enough, coloring outside the lines, etc.
We took some of the ideas from the book and used them in a good ole’ fashioned coloring sesh. We started off with a rainbow, then drew all kinds of things, in all kinds of wacky colors. 100 points to whoever can name everything that Sophie drew {Good luck, because I’m not sure even she knows what they all are}.
In this one, she drew a portrait of her favorite person in the whole wide world: a bald monkey with creepy spider fingers her mom.
You could also do what My Sister’s Suitcase did and make your own crayons! She melted down broken crayons into a mold to make star-shaped crayons. They are so cute!
For our snack, we were pretty simple and ate a rainbow of colors (blueberries, strawberries, oranges, etc). But if you’re feeling ambitious you could make these adorable crayon cookies from The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle.
