It’s that time of the month again! (No, not that time…) This month’s book club is based off an adorable book called Dragons Love Tacos, by Adam Rubin. He’s the same author that wrote Those Darn Squirrels, which is another family favorite.
This cute story tells us how dragons looove tacos. And they love parties. So there is pretty much nothing they love more than a good taco party! As long as the salsa isn’t too spicy… 🙂
For book club this month, we decided to throw our very own taco party! It was quite the elegant affair. There were streamers, balloons, party hats, and lots and lots of tacos. I think the dragons would’ve had a grand ole time, had they been able to make it.
For the craft, we made some fun dragon masks, which the kiddos loved. Here’s what you’ll need for those:
Foam sheets (various colors, we used green, grey, red, black, orange)
Scissors
Craft glue (make sure it works on foam)
Hole punch
Elastic, or other stretchy cord
Box cutter – optional
You can download the mask template HERE. The purple lines are where you cut, and the yellow marks approximately where you glue (so those are the parts that overlap). When it comes to cutting out the eyes, I found that a box cutter works better than scissors. As you can see above, I used scissors for the dragon on the right, and it made the eyes a little choppy.
Once everything is cut out, glue it together and let it dry. Use a hole punch to put a hole in each side of the face, and attach the elastic. I had some plastic coil cords lying around, so I looped those through the holes, but you can use elastic just as easily!
As soon as our masks were ready, we assembled our tacos and the party began!
If you don’t want an entire meal, however, you could make these cookie tacos from The Recipe Rebel instead. Or make paper tacos, like Glued to My Crafts did. Basically, anything taco related would work!
As long as you remember the most important rule… NO spicy salsa! 🙂
