Baked Sweet Potato Fries

July 3, 2015 by Alli 3 Comments

Want fries without the guilt? Try these yummy sweet potato fries! They're healthy and delicious!

I think we all know that eating our feelings is a bad thing. But… I still do it. I mean, when your 4 year old, who has beautiful long hair that has never even been trimmed, decides to give herself a haircut, you have to do something to feel better.

My kryptonite is a heaping plate of hot french fries. There is truly nothing better. Not even chocolate (yep, I said it). And I gotta say, as heartbreaking as it was to see piles of her hair on the floor, shoving my face with these little slices of heaven sure helped to ease the pain. And guess what? These are healthy french fries, so I didn’t even feel guilty ๐Ÿ™‚

If you need to eat some feelings yourself, start off by peeling some sweet potatoes and cutting them into fries. I like them to be a little on the thick side, so I made them about 3/4 wide and 1/2 inch thick. Then toss them in oil and lay them out on a cookie sheet. It’s very important that they aren’t touching, and have room to release steam, otherwise they will just get soggy.

Sprinkle on some salt, pepper, and cumin and throw them in the oven. And that’s it! It’s really that simple. These fries are so so yummy. They completely satisfy my french fry needs, but without making me feel bad about itย ๐Ÿ™‚ They’re crispy on the outside, and warm and sweet on the inside. Diviiiiiine.

These sweet potato fries are easy, healthy, and delicious!

If you want a really yummy dipping sauce to go with these, try mixing up some mayo, ketchup, and BBQ sauce – in whatever proportions you want (I mix about equal parts of each). Don’t ask me why this concoction tastes so delicious, because it really shouldn’t. But it does. Ohhhh it does. Especially with sweet potato fries.

Prep time:  5 mins
Cook time:  25 mins
Total time:  30 mins
Serves: 4

Crispy on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside - these fries are the perfect (guilt free!) snack!
Ingredients
  • 2 sweet potatoes
  • 1 Tbs olive oil
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ⅛ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp cumin
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  2. Peel potatoes and cut into fry-shaped slices, about ½ inch thick.
  3. Toss fries in about 1 Tbs olive oil, or just enough to lightly coat them.
  4. Lay fries on cookie sheet, making sure they are not crowded together. Sprinkle them with salt, pepper, and cumin.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through. Fries are done when the skin bubbles, and starts to blacken just a bit.
  6. Serve immediately!

Let’s not go crazy. There’s nothing better than chocolate. However, I absolutely LOVE sweet potato fries and yours look so delicious. Makes me want to go make some right now. Thankfully, my daughter has never ACTUALLY cut her hair, but she’s so fascinated with scissors and styling people’s hair, it’s probably only a matter of time before her two passions lead her down that path.

Haha.. chocolate comes in a very close second for me ๐Ÿ™‚
Yikes, hopefully she never does! But it looks like you might be in the danger zone!
