Allow me to let you in on a little secret… I hate pumpkin. Truly, truly hate it. I know all you pumpkin-lovers are shocked and horrified right now. You all wait in anticipation for Autumn, just so you can get your pumpkin spice kick.
Well, I happen to think it’s gross. I don’t like the smell, the texture, the taste… anything! But, knowing how popular pumpkin is (and how crazy you pumpkin-obsessors can get about it), I knew I had to give it a try in a recipe!
So here’s what I came up with: pumpkin chocolate chip banana bread. I love banana bread, and I love chocolate… so it seemed like a good idea.
And boy, was I right! I never thought I’d enjoy pumpkin, but it paired so perfectly with the banana. This bread is super duper moist and delicious. I could not. stop. eating. it. We devoured the first loaf so fast, we made another one just a couple days later… which also disappeared. Trust me, you want to try this!
It comes together so easily, as well. Just mix the wet ingredients in one bowl, and the dry in another.
Combine them, add chocolate chips, and pour it in the pan! It bakes for about an hour, so you might want to distract yourself with something else, so you don’t end up staring at the oven, counting down the minutes…
For our bread, I used Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips. This is no sponsored post, but I will be an advertisement for those chocolate chips any day. They make a big difference! I’m a milk chocolate gal through and through, and these are my total fave.
But if you’re a weird pumpkin-lover, you might also be a weird dark-chocolate lover, so just use whatever you like best. And if you’re super crazy, you could also leave out the chocolate, or maybe even add some nuts!

I love a good slice of a quick bread.. especially when its flavoured by a combination as delicious as pumpkin and chocolate. Yum.
Made this for the first time yesterday. I may never go back to “plain” banana bread again. Used chopped pecans instead of chocolate chips ( not fond of bananas and chocolate or pumpkin and chocolate). Fabulous bread. Thanks for sharing. Definitely a keeper.
Thanks so much, Tacy! I’m so glad you liked it 🙂
This was delicious! I have made many a loaf of banana/pumpkin bread recipes and this is a new fav! Very moist and flavorful. I also subbed half the oil for applesauce and it turned out great!
