What do you do when you’re bored, in need of a fun blog post idea, and your kids are begging for another taco party?? Throw a monster party! The little monkeys thought this was way better than the taco party, and that’s definitely saying something, because they still rave about that one 🙂
This party was so much fun to put together, and even more fun to enjoy once it was all set up! I’ll give y’all a rundown of the decorations and food we made, and also include some free printables!
For instructions on how to make the monster wreath, check out my post from a couple days ago! It’s really simple, and so fun! The utensil holder is also really easy – just hot glue some fur around an empty can. I found a little sheet of fur fabric for fairly cheap, and I only used part of it. You could also glue some googly eyes on, if you want!
For the cups, I made the mouths out of white and black card stock, and glued them on with a hot glue gun. Finish them off with a couple of googly eyes… or 6 🙂
I found the cutest little monster clip art files from an Etsy shop called Mint Printables. I used them to make these food labels, the invitations, and then printed some out as extra decorations. The files were only $4 for the set, and you can find them here. {Scroll down a little further to snag my food label printables!}
You can get all kinds of creative with these! We had veggie straws for fingers, Twizzlers for tentacles, green juice for slime, crackers for toenails, and cheese cut in the shape of tongues 🙂 There are a few more on the printable, including scales (you could use potato chips) and claws (Bugles would be perfect).
To hold up the food labels and monster decorations, I used plastic game board stands that I found on Amazon!
The cake ended up being easier than I thought it would! I used piping tip #233 (grass/fur) and let me just say… I’m no piping pro. I’ve never been great at it. But even though my “fur” looks nothing like others you’d see on Pinterest, I still think it turned out just fine!
I made 2 round cakes, stacked them (with a layer of frosting in between), and coated it all in frosting. Then I added gel food coloring to the rest of the frosting and piped it all over. It seemed to work better when the frosting was a bit cold, so I stuck it in the fridge first. The heat from my hands softened it, and if it was too warm, it was too runny to hold it’s shape.
The mouth was piped on with more frosting and black piping gel, and the eyes are just lollipops!
The cupcakes are very similar to the cake – same piping with the fur and mouth. For the eyes, though, I stuck pretzel sticks into mini marshmallows, then dipped the pretzels into green frosting. Once they hardened in the fridge, I stuck them into the cupcakes and added the pupils with black piping gel.
And finally, the marshmallow pops! For in-depth instructions on how to make marshmallow pops, check out this post about my spider marshmallow pops. For these, I dipped them into white candy melts, stuck on candy eyes, and rolled them around in some sparkling sugar. Once they were dry, I piped on frosting using the grass tip, and added a mouth with black piping gel.
Whew, that was a lot! Now for the easy stuff! Here are the fun printables you can download:
For the invites, I created different versions with different ages. Each sheet has 2 invites on them!

I love how your cake turned out — I need to learn to make fur like that for a cake! And I love the color, too. So vivid!
The marshmallow pops are cute, too.
Pinned.
Thanks so much, Christina!
This is exactly what I need, awesome ideas and the printables are perfect except I need them in spanish 🙁 is there a way to send them blank and I can write the words in?
Oh no! I actually don’t have any blank versions of them! Your best bet might be to open them in Picmonkey (a free photo editing website) and add white shapes over the writing to block it out, then add the text over that. Wish I could be more help!
I love this, so cute!! What is the name of the font you used?
Thanks, Bev! I used Janda Safe and Sound, and KG Sweet N Sassy. The KG/Janda fonts are all so cute, and you can download them for free here: http://www.kimberlygeswein.com/download-all-kg-fonts/
