Build Your Own Tin Foil Boats

February 18, 2015 by Alli 6 Comments

Quick and easy craft, perfect for the bathtub or playing outside!

Guess who turned FOUR this weekend??? My little Sophie girl. I’m still in shock.

Her birthday requests included:

1. A purple crown

2. Making crafts

3. A chocolate cake with purple frosting, decorated with a sparkly purple butterfly with a black body.

Yep, she’s a girl who knows exactly what she wants. We were sick on her birthday, so the effort that went into her cake was… minimal. Hence, the rather frightening-looking butterfly. But she still loved it!

Not exactly how I wanted the cake to look

I’m not surprised she asked to do crafts on her birthday, it’s her favorite activity! We try to do crafty things a lot around here, so I’m always trying to find new things to make. Last week, we tried out some tin foil boats, and they were a big hit! And considering we made them with stuff we already had around the house, and they came together in 5 minutes, they were a big hit with me, too 🙂

Here’s what ya need:

Tin foil
Tape
Toothpicks

Use tin foil, tooth picks, and tape to make fun toy boats!

The toothpicks are optional, you don’t have to make the flags. It just makes it more fun 🙂

Grab a big sheet of tin foil and fold it up a few times to make it thicker. If your little monkeys are as hard on things as mine are, you want these things to be as sturdy as possible.

Fold up the sides and mold it into a boat shape.

Add tape to reinforce the shape, and hold the edges together.

To make the flag, fold a piece of washi tape over a toothpick. Cut off the end, or even cut a little triangle out.

Attach your flags, and your boats are ready to set sail!

Seeing as it’s February and we couldn’t use the kiddie pool, we took ’em for a spin in the bath tub.

Owen was napping while all of this went down, and we decided we’re gonna have to do it again when he’s awake. Soph had so much fun! So. much. giggling.

I may or may not have climbed in there with her 🙂
