I am oh-so-excited to share this project with you all! My sister Andrea came up with this idea, and naturally, I had to copy her 🙂 This jewelry holder comes together pretty simply, and doesn’t require a ton of work. And did I mention how cute it is?? That, my friends, is what we call a win-win-win.
Here’s what you’ll need…
– Wooden board (found mine at Hobby Lobby, it came in that fun shape)
– Knobs (also Hobby Lobby. Their selection is awesome!)
– Sandpaper
– Paint (I used Annie Sloan chalk paint, color: Paris Grey)
– Paintbrush
– Power drill
– Hanging wire or other attachment
First things first, you need to run some sandpaper over your board to smooth it out. Usually when you buy a piece of unfinished wood, it needs a little lovin’. It only took about 3 minutes to get mine nice and smooth!
Once it’s sanded (and wiped clean), throw on a couple coats of paint and let it dry.
Then you need to attach your knobs! You can use as many knobs as can fit on your board – mine fit 6 nicely. If you want to stagger them you can, that way you can hang necklaces on the top row as well. But if you plan on putting bracelets on like I did, you don’t have to worry about them running into each other. However you design it, make sure to measure everything out and mark where you want the knobs with pencil. The last thing you want is for things not to be lined up correctly!
When it comes to attaching the knobs, just drill holes where you marked, then screw them in.
When you attach them, make sure there’s room to hang up the jewelry. As you can see, the pink, yellow, and blue knobs left room for hanging things. The polka-dot knobs I chose did not, so trying to hang something up wouldn’t work too well. To fix it, I just made sure they stuck out a bit, so there was space left between the knob and board.
There are a couple of different ways you could hang this beauty up… One is to attach a couple of sawtooth picture-hangers on the back. If that’s the route you go, just make sure the hanger sticks out at least as far as the screws.
What I did was take some hanging wire (found at Home Depot) and wrap it around the back of 2 knobs.
There was probably a more high-tech way I could’ve done this, but it works like a charm!
Because the jewelry holder ended up being a bit heavy, I drilled 2 screws in the wall to hold it up – just to be safe.
And that’s it, folks! You’re now free to hang up all of your cute jewelry! Or… your daughter’s cute jewelry 🙂
