DIY Hot Chocolate Kit

November 2, 2015 by Alli 4 Comments

Easy neighbor Christmas gift! Who doesn't love hot chocolate??

Psst… Be sure to scroll down to the end of this post to enter an awesome giveaway! We’re giving a prize package of over $1500 worth of Christmas gifts to a lucky winner!

I know. Halloween was just 2 days ago, and I’m already diving into the Christmas spirit. But guess what? I don’t even care! I have no problem blasting Christmas tunes well before December, and I won’t let anyone rain on my tinsel-y parade. I usually love Halloween, but I’m more than ready to put this year behind us. With a babe due any day, we weren’t quite prepared when Halloween rolled around, and Jonny and I didn’t even dress up! So lame.

Trick or treating was also… an adventure. I’m new to the small town life, but this was like nothing I’ve ever experienced. 90% of the houses weren’t handing out candy, so it was quite a trek to find ones that were. After 45 minutes, we had only hit 4 houses! The kids weren’t big fans because it was pitch black outside, and there were cars whizzing by (why no sidewalks?!). My favorite was being on road-kill alert, and having to step around decomposing armadillos. Yep. You could say this was a Halloween we’ll never forget… just not sure that’s a good thing 🙂

So today I’m putting Halloween behind me, and sharing a fun (and easy) little project that makes a really great Christmas gift for friends or neighbors. Who doesn’t love hot chocolate, am I right? I’m a little obsessed. Ok, a little more than a little obsessed. I just can’t help myself. I may or may not drink it even if it’s 80 degrees outside. But honestly, liquid chocolate is way too great of invention to only be saved for cold weather.

My all-time favorite is Stephen’s Hazelnut Hot Cocoa. Ohhh my. So so good. Sadly, I can’t find it anywhere in our town, so I’ve been without my Hazelnut cocoa fix for almost a year now! (PS. If anyone feels so inclined to send me some… I just might be your BFF).

Chocolate and peppermint marshmallow pops are perfect for hot chocolate!

For the basket, I threw in all kinds of yummy hot cocoa-related goodies. These marshmallow pops were a breeze to throw together – just skewer a marshmallow with a stick or straw, dip it in melted chocolate, and roll it around in crushed candy canes. Toss them in the fridge for a bit, and you’re good to go!

Then I dipped some mini candy canes into the melted chocolate, and let them harden. They make for some cute (and tasty) hot chocolate stirrers.

Chocolate dipped candy canes are delicious in hot chocolate!

I also included a cute mug, micro marshmallows, and Andes peppermint bits. For the hot chocolate, you can use your favorite kind or make your own. You could also include some of these fun ideas:

  • Peanut butter chocolate chips
  • Caramel squares
  • Hot chocolate spoons
  • Hot chocolate on a stick
  • Homemade marshmallows
  • Chocolate hazelnut pirouettes
  • Chocolate shavings

Cute hot chocolate kit makes the perfect Christmas gift for neighbors, family, and friends!

Throw everything in a cute basket or box, and that’s it! Such a simple and practical gift.
